This article walks you through the three key steps to completing your background check. We’ll break down each step in detail below, but here’s a quick overview of the process:
1. Begin your application | Step one: Use the email invitation you received to access your background check. In the online application, you’ll review and accept the terms, give your consent, and enter your name and phone number.

| 2. Fill out the application | Step two: Once you've entered your name and phone number, you'll be guided through additional pages with tasks or fields to complete. Credibled offers various types of background checks, so the exact steps you'll see depend on what your potential employer or landlord requested. |
| 3. Review and submit | Step three: After completing the application, you'll get a chance to review all your information to ensure it's accurate. Once everything looks good, just submit your application—and that’s it! |

Ready to get started with your background check? Here's what to do:
- Check your email
Look for the background check invitation email in your inbox—it was sent by your potential employer or landlord. (If it’s not there, be sure to check your junk or spam folder.) The email includes important details, so give it a quick read. When you're ready, click the Get Started button to open the online application in your browser. - Start your application
The first page includes a few statements to confirm your eligibility and consent for the background check. If you agree, check the corresponding boxes, then click Next to move forward. - Consent to the background check
Next, you’ll see one or more pages requesting your consent to proceed with the background check. After reading each page, select Yes, I agree, then click Next to continue. - Provide your name and phone number
On the following page, enter your name and phone number. To prevent delays, be sure to use the exact name shown on your government-issued ID or birth certificate. Once complete, click Next to proceed.

Fill out the application
After completing the steps in Start your application, you’ll move on to additional pages with specific tasks or fields to fill out. Since Credibled offers a variety of background check types, the pages you see will depend on what your potential employer or landlord requested.
To help you complete the next pages, keep an eye out for tips and guidance displayed directly within the application. Here are some common places where support appears in our online form:
- Within the descriptive text displayed on the page
- In tooltips attached to certain fields—just hover your cursor over the icon or text to see more details.
- In a Why do we ask this? link, which you can select to learn more:

Once you’ve completed all required tasks and fields, you’ll land on a page asking you to review and confirm your information. At that point, continue to the next section of this article: Review and submit.

Review and submit
You’re nearly there! Just a few final steps to wrap things up:

Once you’ve finished all previous steps, you’ll reach a page where you can review and confirm the information you’ve entered. Take a moment to double-check everything—accurate details help your background check move forward without delays. Need to make a change? Click the pencil icon. If everything looks correct, click Confirm to proceed.

- Verify your email
On the following page, you might be asked to verify your email address. If prompted, check your inbox and follow the instructions in the email to proceed. - Submit your application
When you reach the next page and are ready, click Submit Application. You’ll see a confirmation page, and from there, you can simply close the browser tab. - Check for a confirmation email
After submitting your application, look for a confirmation email in your inbox. If it’s not there, be sure to check your junk or spam folder.
